International Workshop
In October 2026, a project-specific International workshop is planned to take place at Bar Ilan University. An international call will be spread on time. As a result of the workshop, we plan an edited publication in the form of a special issue.
About the International workshop
We aim to conduct a two-day project-specific workshop at Bar Ilan University in October 2026, for which we will publish an international call and personally invite colleagues to apply. We will host dozens of researchers from Germany, Israel, and other countries, gathering leading scholars for a focused exchange of ideas and cutting-edge knowledge. The workshop will explore one of the most significant socio-demographic and economic shifts of our time: the rise in life expectancy in economically developed countries. This transformation presents far-reaching challenges for individuals and societies, requiring new approaches from both states and families. Central to these discussions are questions of pensions and social security, particularly in light of substantial reforms and persistent gender disparities.
The 21st Century Pension
The workshop offers a rare opportunity to connect experts working at the forefront of pension research and to collectively address the growing uncertainty surrounding future old-age income. As public trust in pension systems continues to decline, it is essential to understand the institutional and normative foundations of these systems, especially the ways in which gender inequality is embedded within them. This international gathering will provide a platform to advance knowledge, foster collaboration, and contribute to ongoing debates around one of the most pressing social policy issues of the 21st century.
